Bakery El Monte Sinai Corp. of Hempstead, New York is recalling rainbow cake because it may contain undeclared eggs a food allergen. Consumers who are allergic to eggs may run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.
The recalled rainbow cake, in an 10 ounces Styrofoam tray with plastic wrap, code dated 7/8/12, UPC 5273500209, was sold in Nassau County, Suffolk County and New York County in New York state.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of eggs in packages of rainbow cake which did not declare eggs as an ingredient on the label.
No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date in connection with the rainbow cake.
